March 24th, 2004 UPDATE: FUBAR'S MIKE DOWSE RESPONDS TO OUR LETTER This just in! We received a very nice letter from Mike Dowse about the role of Brocket 99 in the movie FUBAR
Hey Michael I got your email through our website. I'm so glad you guys noticed our props to you guys. It was an honour to put a clip of it in the film. Brocket 99 was a huge inspiration to all involved in making the film. As a punk teenager all of my friends had the entire tape memorized. In fact even today when I call my old friends in Calgary, we immediately start quoting the tape. We just slip back into it like we were 19 again. What happened with the tape. I tried to look at the history on the website but got pushed to some weather network. Have you guys thought of doing another tape or anything with it. Take care Mike We'll let you know about our interview with Mike as soon as something is set up. FUBAR ROCKS THE RESERVATION AT SUNDANCE I knew I had heard of this movie. In fact I think I had it in my paws at Tower records about a month ago. Maybe it was just some bad stinkweed. Anyway, I get this email from good ole' Ernie and he says our favourite parody makes a cameo in the movie FUBAR. I almost "tripped over my chair." I started hunting down all the info I could find on FUBAR. You can read some of the commentary I found below but don't think I'm asleep at the wheel. I'm already planning an interview with the director "Mike Dowse" More on that as information becomes available. "Part Spinal Tap, part American Movie, and all Canadian (right down
to the infamous "Brocket 99" playing in the
background during an early scene - and only people from Southern Alberta are going to get
that reference), (oh yeah? - Guess I'll have to make the real Ernie Scar an official reporter for us. SPEAKING OF ERNIE SCAR... THE INTERROGATION HAS BEGUN The ball is rolling and the voice of Ernie Scar is talking to you. What's he saying? Well that's up to you. But here's a preview; With some trepidation I'm entering into this little "tete-a-tete with Ernie Scar" feature with you, but I still want to clear some things up with our legions of fans, and other observers - friend or foe.. Read all the rest here The Ernie Scar interview is still being edited. Hey! I'm a busy guy. I hope to have it available to all of our impatient fans soon. It will be worth the wait. Meantime, we are adding soundbytes from the interview here and there. You can check out the first words that Ernie has publicly spoken about Brocket 99 here. Ernie Scar Fact; The real Ernie Scar likes movies like Monty Python's THE LIFE OF BRIAN! That's one of my favourites too! OUR CUZIN STILL BEIN ATTACKED BROCKET99.CA is dealing with some bad press as of late and is now battling politics too. Seems the mysterious photo of "William No Respect" spray painted on a building had a meaning after all. They've had the pic on their site for some time and just recently received this email. Hi, ya I don't know if you guys at admin read the posts but I have a very serious comment to make and suggestion. Ok there was a photo posted of a comment someone spraypainted on the side of a house. The spraypainted comment was directed toward a very upstanding citizen of the Piikanii nation community. I felt it was very tasteless and I'm requesting the photo be removed. I am the daughter of the target and the comment was a display of pure jealousy. It wasnt done out of fun, and it angers me that someone would find that sort of thing as funny. So please remove the photo titled "william no respect" to further aviod more e-mails from me or others that support the Piikanii Nations Energy Manager. I then received an email from the owner of Brocket99.ca and was asked; could you read the newest post on the site and let me know what you think I should do I wrote the following email to him: You've already left the answer up to your visitors. I'm sure they'll say that you should leave it up. I don't see a problem with your pictures. You've placed a disclaimer on your front page concerning your site. When you view a photo, the meaning is usually based on your own perspective. People will choose what they believe them to mean. You won't change anyone's mind either way. I do understand that this is a personal issue to the individual that wrote you but still there is no malice on your part that I can see . People are free to write you and express their views and they are also free to avoid your site and mine. If you bow to this kind of pressure, how long will it be before more people demand this or that disappear from your web site until you are left with nothing? Most people won't even understand the significance of the photo. I sure didn't know what it meant until I read the post. If you want, you could write a bit about its background now that you know more. Im going to post this on brocket99.net as well and would be happy to assist you further if I can. Feel free to contact me anytime. Sincerely, Michael Anthony Owner I encourage you to go to the web site and express your opinion as well. ALBERTA HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION; A SECOND HAND THOUGHT ON HYPOCRISY I have no clue as to whether the guestbook entry submitted a few weeks back is accurate. It was submitted anonymously so I could not write the complainant. I looked up information on Alberta Human Rights commissioner Lori Andreachuk and everything that I was able to find was quite positive. Here is the guestbook entry; Alberta Human Rights commissioner Lori Andreachuk is a hypoctrite. I am a native, when I was in Junior High her brother ---- sat by me. He was always telling native jokes, even making fun of Brian Trottier. The most racist guy I have ever met. Where does a kid learn this from? His family!!! So the Alberta Human Rights Commission has no moral authority to criticize with someone like her on the board! I find that you cannot judge each individual by any one standard alone. There is no proof that the brother of the AHRC commissioner learned his behavior from his family. I know plenty of great families who have "black sheep" in them. I'm one of those B.S. from a great family. LENARD IS BACK This month finds Lenard busy writing words of wisdom to his many fans. And you'll never guess. He has his own gear now. He wants to make a few bucks to pay for his next lawyer we suppose. Click here for da gear. CLAYTON MAGNET IMMORTALIZED ON COTTON AND MORE NEW GEAR The gear section has been redesigned to make it easier for Brocket 99 fans to get their fix. We've got everything including tees, sweats, caps, flying discs, coffee mugs, tile coasters, bags baby bibs and more. And check this out; Brocket 99 gear is now listed on the t-shirt countdown web site. At last count we're already at # 12! Please go there and vote for our gear. We want to make Brocket 99 number one in everyone's heart! FINALLY You'll see some changes in the coming weeks to brocket99.net. We've hired a great artist named Woody Hu from Hu Toonz to create the Brocket 99 characters. Part of the reason we're animating characters like Clayton Magnet and Elvis Meatface is to emphasize that Brocket 99 is not based on real people. It's a parody and is not meant to be taken seriously. Woody is responsible for all of the new gear you've been seeing recently. We really love what he's doing! We know you will too! Did you go on the roller coaster, Michael
INTERROGATE ERNIE SCAR, MORE BROCKET UNCOVERED, INDIANZ.COM & ON AND ON March 9th, 2004 INTERROGATE; To examine by questioning formally or officially. ERNIE SCAR; The name which is designated for the creator of the Brocket 99 radio parody. Connect those definitions and you've got our brand new exclusive segment. INTERROGATE ERNIE SCAR Brocket99.Net has done everything in its power to prove and dis-prove that our contact is the actual creator of Brocket 99. We've looked up his info, talked to others by phone, and even had his real name mentioned to us by people that couldn't have known it by chance We've received plenty of emails from different sources with verification. There are factual places, people and dates that back up everything Ernie has told us. The puzzle is fairly complete. So now; We officially endorse our contact as the real creator of Brocket 99. We also respect his right to privacy so until he gives the okay, we will not reveal any personal information about him. We would also add that as far as we're concerned. Mark Campbell has nothing to do with B99 as he stated in our interview with him. Here's a little bit of what Ernie has to say about Brocket 99. Sorry if I burst some bubbles here, but I can tell you what Brocket 99 is not. This program in and of itself really has nothing to do with Natives at all. That's not what it's about. The Native Indian content was just the vehicle. Now, you can get loaded and enjoy it on the level of the stereotypical jokes, the profanities and the AC/DC music if you want to... but that's not really what it's about, and the subject matter is really of secondary importance -- for really, Brocket 99 is not a parody of Native life at all. It is a parody on... Read the rest and interrogate Ernie Scar yourself. We've heard from Ernie and now Ernie wants to hear from you! Brocket99.net wants you to get involved in the examination of the "real" Ernie Scar. Ernie has agreed to work with us and let you question him about Brocket 99. That's right! Ask Ernie about the story of Clayton Magnet. Find out how many people actually know about his "dirty little secret" and what happened. If there's something you've been dying to know about Brocket 99, now's your chance to ask. The sky's the limit. Email Ernie Scar Now!
We've had some negative feedback sure. Check this out; You guys are nothing but Nazi racist's. You guys have no clue to want is going on - Tim But for the most part, our little site gets more praise than anything. "I am happy with the cd's and I'm always checking out the site." I believe it's because we lay our site out differently than others. There are two sides... or more to every story and we want to let each opinion to be heard. Recently our cuzin's at brocket99.ca were attacked on Indianz.com for some pics in their photo section. The authors were stomping Brocket 99 directly too but these pics of Natives fighting in a bathroom seemed to really stir them up. So as usual I wrote about it. I was visiting Indianz.com the other day and saw a rant about Brocket99. They seemed to be upset with brocket99.ca's photo section and really the entire site from what I gathered. I have to admit I don't always like what our cuzin's at .ca do. I think they enjoy playing drunk indian a little too much but they have a right to do that in my opinion. Just as indianz.com has a perfect right to react. Of course I received responses from fans of .ca like this one; i am a personal friend with the creator of brocket99.ca and i can't understand why
you say that he plays drunk indian too often, are you even from alberta? you have to
realize that we aren't racist and like you said yourself have this site to laugh at the
comedy and not at the people. you have to realize that growing up in southern alberta and
being a "redneck" as some are calling us. we have been targeted our whole lives
by natives who were completely racist against us. i can name several stories where i have
personally been threatened by drunk indians based on the colour of my skin, my brothers
high school was playing kainai in basketball and because they were losing, the parents of
the kainai kids were calling the refs racist and through a half full pop bottle that
almost hit one of the kids in the head. when the principal of the school went up and asked
them why they did that, the parents started calling him racist. you seem to have a show or
know these guys with the show. why don't you spend less time commenting on my friends
site, saying how he spends too much time doing things and start addressing the issue of
how these people need to teach their kids how to become normal citizens and quit depending
on the big bad whitey government to support their asses. -end My Response: I'm going to be publishing the written transcript of Brocket 99 for those interested very soon. Hope you enjoy that there. Finally, I swear I thought I had heard it all. I'm sure you believed the same. But more is seeping out. That's right. I'll say no more. I'm such an asshole. Take it away Harley, Michael
OUTKAST, BROCKET 99, DON & MIKE CONNECTION; INDIANZ.COM, MORE ERNIE CLIPS February 17th, 2004 I'm listening to the Don and Mike show today because they had just come back on the air after a two week suspension for saying the word "bullshit" on the air. They were commenting on another jock, Don Imus, who had uttered the word the day before. Most of the show was spent commenting on the suspension and the over-reaction of the United States Government and Federal Communications Commission towards things like dirty words, Janet Jackson's half nude nipple and the like. During the news segment it was mentioned that the CBS network issued another apology (the first being the Janet Jackson breast shot) for Outkast's performance during the now famous Grammy's. Seems as if Indians were on the warpath now. The following is taken from Launch Networks. This time Native Americans are furious over what they say are "racist stereotypes" portrayed in OutKast's Native American-themed Grammy Awards performance of "Hey Ya" at the end of the show. Outkast's dancers emerged from a fake tepee dressed as American Indians, and then proceeded to bump and grind in feather headdresses, fringe skirts, and braided wigs. Several Native American organizations condemned the performance as racist, including The Native American Cultural Center (NACC) in San Francisco. "It was the most disgusting set of racial stereotypes aimed at American Indians that I have ever seen on TV," said Sean Freitas, a board member of NACC, in a statement. "It was on par with white people dancing sexually in black face, or yarmulkes, or the vestments of the Catholic Church. I am shocked and outraged." After the story was related on the Don and Mike show, Don of course pulled out his Brocket 99 tapes and began playing bits from our hero Ernie Scar. They played the safeway commercial and laughed their asses off as usual. Don commented that Native's should "get a life" and wondered if our world has become a whine-fest where any little thing can now become the next scandal. I am in total agreement with Don and Mike that people like this should get a life. We have terrorism, wars, starvation and on and on. And people are worried about women dancing on stage in Native attire. Let's get our god damn priorities straight! Which brings me to my next issue. Here is the post that is on the indianz website; "We need to find concrete solutions on how to oppose garbage like
this and set a precendent so others won't follow their lead. The creator of these tapes,
Mark Campbell, is now a piller in his community as a weather man on the local television
station. If I had my way he'd be answerble to Alberta human rights commision, but as
stated in those articles this fuker won't come clean so they can't do sh*t. I went to the website and filled out a form so that I could post the following message. Post to Indianz.com I understand the problems that people have with Brocket 99. I also
see that many web sites have a negative perspective of native people. I will grant you
that even my web site pokes fun with our column Ask Lenard. However, as I've said so many
times before, we are not here to spread hatred. You'll notice that as you examine
brocket99.net and compare it to other sites. (this is NOT simply a reference to other
Brocket sites) By the way, we do not hold the opinion that Mark Campbell
is the creator of the Brocket 99 Tapes and believe that proof should be found before any
fingers are pointed. Mr. Campbell has denied his affiliation again and again. My post has not shown and I believe my application to post was refused even though I too, am of native decent. I believe debate is a fantastic thing and that we all need to communicate so that we can come to a better understanding of one another. But that will not happen as long as agendist groups, be they parody sites or cultural ones, stay closed to opposing opinions. Brocket99.net always welcomes your thoughts. Pro or con. Feel free to email us anytime. Brocket99.net wants you to get involved in the examination of the "real" Ernie Scar. Ernie has agreed to work with us and let you ask him questions about Brocket 99. That's right! Ask Ernie about the story of Clayton Magnet. Find out how many people actually know about his "dirty little secret" and what happened. If there's something you've been dying to know about Brocket 99, now's your chance to ask. The sky's the limit. Interrogate Ernie Scar Now! Email his ass! Finally, we have more audio clips of the Ernie Scar Interview for your listening pleasure... or displeasure. There is so much more coming to this web site, you won't believe your Iris! Get out of this fuckin' studio, Michael
